CASE STUDY

Site: The Y House, Cambridge
  • Specifications

General Brief - The Y House is a bespoke eco-friendly domestic dwelling for a private tenant in Cambridge. Particular drivers for the project were to maximise the opportunities for views and daylight whilst respecting the privacy of the neighbours.

We were contracted to supply and erect the structural steel frame which formed the basis of the unique Y shaped structure designed to widen out towards the garden from the entrance.

The house was intended to be an enviromentally low impact home designed and built using materials and technology to reduce its carbon footprint and lower its energy use and as such steel was the natural choice for the structural frame.

A particularly challenging project which demanded a high degree of design input and site accuracy due to the complexity of the design.

Awards - This project won the residential prize in the 2019 RIDBA Building Awards.
